
The Historic Rivermill is one of the most famous child friendly cafes which are located in Gold Coast, Queensland. The location is not far from Mount Tamborine. It’s only around 10 minutes inland from Nerang. It is located in the picturesque Mount Nathan Shire in the Gold Coast Hinterland. It is a must visit cafe for families with young kids who enjoy feeding cute animals and enjoy delicious meals that are served. This place offers different features from native flora and fauna and wildlife. It is perfect for wedding venues or special occasions.
The history of the Historic Rivermill is quite fascinating, originally The Rivermill was the first and the largest of the three mills that operated on the Coomera River GoldCoast. The Rivermill boasted more than 27 mills which were a thriving industry in the area, but unfortunately, none of which are now in operation.
The first mill was built to operate with steam power but was renovated and enlarged when converted to electricity in 1932, after which it operated for a further 12 years before closing in 1943 as the industry started to decline.
Since 1943, The Historic river mill has been used for various things, such as a stud, a dairy, a dance hall for army bush dances, and then now as a cafe and a wedding venue. The original part of Rivermill is a museum and has some of the agricultural machinery used at the mill.
It is a beautiful spot for families to visit , In addition to its historical significance to the Gold Coast. There are various things to do with the kids, such as;
- Feeding Turtles
- Feeding Deer
- Feeding Alpaca
- Riding a pony
- Playing in the playground
- Picnic by the river
Make sure the animal food is purchased in the cafe before heading out to the playground area and petting farm . The Animal food can be purchased from the cafe from 2-3 $. The children enjoy the beautiful scenery and the petting farm. They can feed the deer and alpaca inside the petting farm.
It is a great place to just sit back, relax in the sun and let the kids play and run around. Although the water is open and supervision is required, this place offers so much open space for families to enjoy the day out.
